FOTD- Love peck

Face of the Day posts are a bit of a sore point for me at the moment, as some of you know I had a benign tumor removed from my jaw last week and a bit of the swelling and mis-shapen-ness remain. I don't know if my face will ever look normal again but I'm trying to accept it how it is.

Myface foundation, Benefit boi-ing concealer, Ysl touche eclat
Mac highlight powder in golden nectar (bronzer) Nyx mosiac blush in
love, Mac Gana blush (highlight)
Mac moleskin eyeshadow, Mac greasepaint stick in French quarter,
Benefit badgal mascara
Mac love peck kissable lip colour

Sadly I don't have a medical excuse for the state of my eyebrows...stress? No, just laziness is the real answer!

I guess this experience has taught me you can't be too obsessed with how you look, and that will be my beauty resolution for 2012.

Have you made any beauty resolutions?

2011 favourites!

So I thought I'd be productive this Christmas eve and get my 2011 favourites out!
I tried to think of my most used or favourite buys of the year rather than by category- I can't think I've found a ground breaking new mascara or concealer this year, for example. So here we are!

1.       Famous by Sue Moxley shimmer bricks I seriously see hardly any difference between these and the Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks and this product is £6. Enough said.

2.       Clarins beauty flash balm I used this about 5 years ago but I guess at that age I wasn’t really tired enough to appreciate the effects of this product! My boyfriend bought me an amazing Clarins giftset in June for our anniversary and the BFB was in there. My love for this illuminating base has been rekindled and I’ve just purchased another tube.

3.       Chanel Vitalumiere foundation I bought this in May or June and it just works really well in Summer or Winter. This foundation is quite dewy and brightening, it covers more by deflecting away from imperfections and feels light on the skin

4.       YSL creme de blush I haven’t had this very long, maybe since October but I haven’t used another blush since I got it. I have shade 01 velvet peach. For a cream blush it has fantastic longevity and blends like a dream. I like to apply it with a stippling brush.

5.       Chanel Illusion d’Ombre shadows My original review is *here* This product has just got to be the eyeshadow of the year for anyone. What a texture, what an effect, what staying power- they just nailed it. The green one is next on my list

6.       MAC moleskin eyeshadow This came out with the MAC me over collection this year and it’s become my favourite neutral shadow. It looks really peach in this rubbish photo but it’s actually quite a smokey camel colour. Kind of a mix of naked and buck from the UD naked palette.

7.       HD brows palette The vast majority of us bloggers got this palette in our Glossy boxes, and woah did it make that box worthwhile. Awesome, awesome product.

8.       Sleek pout paints I got the colours to make neutral lip shades and have quite enjoyed having this slightly gross looking mixing pot in my handbag and tweaking the peach/pinkness of my lipstick on the go!

9.       Dolce & Gabbana Mandorla lipstick This lippie was picked up in April and I think it came out with the Spring collection this year. It’s a beautiful pale pinky nude blend and the quality of D&G lipsticks it’s really exceptional. I’m really glad I got my hands on it this year

10.   17 revenge nail polish Out of all the lovely OPI, China Glaze and Chanel nail polish releases this year I think this little 17 one is my favourite- I base this decision on the fact that I protested the most over having to take this off in hospital! It's a greyish pink with purple sparkle.

So that concludes my 2011 favourites! I would love to read yours so leave your links in the comments

Are any of these products on your list?

NOTD- essie cocktail bling- bling!

As mentioned in my last Sunday summary I got the Essie winter collection minis recently and have been blinging them up a bit in the run up to Christmas!

This is Essie cocktail bling with extra sparkle from NYC lights camera glitter topcoat.

I think it's kind of snow storm like

What do you think?

Did you get any of the Essie winter polishes?

Also if you have a notd featuring the Essie lux effects polishes then link me up- I would love to see it!

Glossybox December

I received my box at 7.30am this morning which is even earlier in the day than last month, however the spoilers for this box have been online since Monday which i think has annoyed some people.

We were promised a super-duper Christmas edition of Glossybox and this is what I got in mine:

Deborah Lippmann nail polish in razzle dazzle and a polish remover pad

(very exciting nail polish, I wonder if the remover only works on this brand though? We only have one pad so I guess I'll never know!)

Mememe seventh heaven face primer

(I've been looking for a primer like this for a while so I'm excited to try, unfortunately it smells like Cif kitchen cleaner)

Blink&go long lasting mascara

(very credible full sized product- looking forward to trying it out)

Cargo mini lipgloss in 'Paris'

(I'm surprised how much make up is in here compared to last month)

Rituals shower foam in rose&almond

(I'm allergic to almonds but luckily it's my Gran's birthday today and she likes rose scented things so maybe she'll appreciate it)

What did you get in yours?

FOTD mixing it up

Today is going all kinds of wrong and for these kind of days I end up piling the make up cabinet on my face and seeing how it turns out- this is how!

Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation, benefit boiing concealer, bourjois bronzer, mac well dressed blush

Rimmel cooling eyeshadow mousse in mocha, mac tempting, Brun & nocturnelle shadows on lid, brûlé & shroom to highlight and blend
Elf eyebrow crayon, mac feline & diorshow mascara

Dior beige angelique lippie

I've been waiting all day for a hospital appointment to have a scan before my next surgery but the clinic are just messing me around, I gave up and went to tesco to get things to finish off my Christmas gift hampers. At least the shopping is done now!

How are you doing with your gift shopping?

Festive NOTD

A very short but Christmassy NoTD post for you, China Glaze Twinkle Lights from the current holiday collection over Zoya Alluria.

Alluria is a peachy nude cream, fast becoming my favourite nude nail polish!

I just love how glittery Twinkle Lights is, It looks great on it's own with 2 coats as well, though with the beige underneth I think it brings out the gold flecks.

Are you rocking a festive manicure yet?

Sunday Summary

1.       Clothes-wise, November has been all about the lace tights for me, these ones are from tk maxx which is where I get most of my tights from (Wolford, Falke, Jonathon Aston, Henry Holland... for less than £5 a pair…so the same price as Dorothy Perkins but  10X the quality)

The pictured pair are a brand called Vixen which I’ve never heard of but they look amazing! Sadly I’m finding it impossible to take a clear picture of my own legs so I resorted to this angle

2.       DiorShow mascara has made a comeback this month, after my overly dramatic and emotional review *here* where I said it wasn’t how I remembered it to be, it let me down, broke my heart, yada-yada- I left it alone for a month and it got good. I stand by the review as you can’t pay that kind of money for a mascara that performs well for a few weeks out of 3 months, but I have been enjoying it while it lasts

3.       I feel like photos of various hot pot style cuisine is standard  in these posts of mine so this month it is sausage, lentil and squash casserole. I found some appropriately named ‘casserole sausages’ in Tesco and decided to use them in this dish. I can’t find a link anywhere to a similar recipe and I didn’t follow it properly anyway, just as well I’m not a food blogger really! It was basically sausages, lentils, squash, red pepper and kale with pork stock cubes and water. It was nice, trust me.

4.       My Black Friday order from Beauty Bay eventually turned up and it was the Essie Winter collection miniatures, the two missing shades from the collection are of course now the ones I really want, which was the caramel and muted teal shades, but on organising my nail polishes today I notice I have both caramel and teal colours in mass abundance so that is not a great loss.

Otherwise November has been a weird month, I’ve off work sick for the majority of the time, I’m still waiting to get my biopsy results for the growth on my jaw so the FoTD ban continues until my face is more symmetrical!

   How was your November?

Green Eyed Girl

I have a major khaki-crush at the moment as far as eyeshadows are concerned and here are some of the products I’ve been wearing religiously

Laura Mercier caviar eye stick in khaki, Stila waterproof smudge pencil  in Mornay,YSL cream eyeliner in bronze black (it’s so un-bronze!)MAC eyeshadows in Sumptuous Olive and GreenSmoke

I reviewed the YSL liner *here* and I’m also wearing the Stila product- which came in Glossy box- in that post as well (this green thing has clearly been going on a while!)

Now the real point of this post is the Laura Mercier caviar eye stick.

It is, quite simply, lovely. It makes me want to quote my welsh stepmother and say It Is Lush
I Have the shade Khaki and it is so pigmented and creamy.
Really easy to apply and can be worn opaque or sheered out, when blended you can see it’s taupe coloured base so it’s so easy to create an eye look with just this product.

In the photo below I’m just wearing Khaki with the YSL liner on the lash line and MAC mega metal shadow in Prance on the inner corner only.

Khaki swatched heavily then blended out

Although caviar eye sticks aren’t particularly marketed as creaseless cream products if you allow it to dry for a minute before blending or applying a shadow over the top it doesn’t crease on me.

It is definitely my favourite purchase of the past few months!

Have you tried any of the caviar eye sticks?
What colours are you loving at the moment?

Pan Down- November Empties

I explained why I call monthly empties Pan Down in my previous post…I won’t bore you with that irrational explanation again!

1.       The Body Shop Oat & Honey cleansing mask

This is a staple in my skincare routine now, it is smells so good and is really soothing. I use it 2 or 3 times a week and it lasts about 3 months.
My full review is *here* but I will add since I’ve read more reviews in it, that on dry skin it does set hard. I’ve read many, many reviews for combination skin that explain it stays wet on that skin type but I have dry skin and the mask sets in 5-10 minutes on me.

2.       17 photo flawless primer
I do like this primer, it was about £3 and I will probably purchase it again when there’s a 17 3 for2 offer on. I don’t think it particularly helps my foundation to stay on but it does make my skin look much smoother and pores less noticeable. Great value for money

3.       L’oreal Studio secrets primer

Typical that I use up 2 primers at once! This primer is OK, I do think it helps foundation to stay on but unlike the 17 one, I see no difference in the surface appearance of my skin. There are so may better primers around for this kind of money!

4.       Derma Intensive hand lotion
I got this from Tesco to keep on my desk at work, it was 75p. It’s actually pretty good! I’d certainly recommend it if you’re on a budget!

1.       Laura Mercier crème smooth foundation

I finally bit the bullet and scooped up the last application that’s been lingering in the container for about 5 months. I got through this foundation REALLY fast, like in 6 weeks…which is appalling considering how much it cost. In hind sight I think I applied this stupidly though. I might re-purchase as it is a gorgeous foundation (my review *here*) but if I do I will definitely apply using fingers and then finish with a sponge. I used to apply this with the sponge straight from the pot and probably wasted loads.

2.       Neutrogena deep clean make up remover

I only use this for cleaning my eyeliner brushes or getting make up stains off things, it’s way too harsh to use on my actual face but it does remove make up swiftly

3.       Scholl deep moisturising cream

I love this foot cream, it’s a main stay with the Scholl rough skin remover exfoliator and I always re-purchase it

4.       Soap & Glory Heel genius
Not pictured as I just couldn’t wait to throw it away once I’d finally got through it, this is the worst foot cream I’ve ever used.

So what are you getting through this month?
Have you used any of these products??

November Glossy Box

This is also a mobile test run for me so who knows I'd you'll be able to actually see anything?

I'm pretty stunned to be holding a new glossy box at this time in the morning, they normally arrive mid morning buy I'm not complaining :)

Illamasqua Freak perfume is my favourite item. I wanted to try this sooo badly!

Then I have more nail rock wraps. Annoying as we got these a few months ago and yet again I have a boring black and White striped design

Next is dead sea magik gentle cleansing wash and Arbonne cooling foot cream...

Finally I have Philip Kingsley hair elasticizer which I'm excited to try.

Have you got yours?

NOTD: Midtown Magic

China Glaze Midtown Magic is part of their Metro collection, I got this as part of a mini Sally's haul in which I also picked up OPI Russian Navy, and I brake for manicures from the OPI touring America collection.

Midtown /magic is a gorgeous dark brown with green and gold glitter, my blur-tastic iPhonery does it no justice at all...

Let's try it with a decent camera and flash:

OK you can see the bling now but potentially decent camera + daylight = the way to go.

Are you loving dark nails this November?
What's your NOTD?

Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation review

I need to get round to reviewing more of my foundation collection, I always want to thoroughly test them out before giving a review, but then end up practically finishing them before mentioning it at all!

Needless to say, I’ve been using this since September so I should have a fair idea what it’s like by now

Packaging: Very nice, glass container. Metal lid. Chunky, weighty, expensive feeling.

Texture: gel like cream, reminds me of Bourjois healthy mix and Lancome teint miracle

Coverage: Light medium. It’s comparable to Chanel Vitalumiere in coverage (another foundation I’ve had ages and not reviewed) It camouflages more by reflecting away from imperfections rather than masking them with colour

Finish: Dewey but looks great powdered lightly, it retains a satiny glow and photographs well.

Longevity: Good for a dewey foundation, powdered it lasts all day on me
Value: It’s £25 which for a high end feel foundation is not that bad. The packaging puts MAC in the shade and they’re around the same price.

As you can see it doesn’t cover blemishes or under eye circles

it does photograph flat so in the 3rd photo I have on concealer, elf HD powder, mac pearl ccb to highlight areas of the face, bourjois chocolate bronzer to contour and YSL cream blush. That’s ALL necessary to give my face dimension.

All in all I really like skin illusion. It smells like cucumbers for reference. The shade I have is Amber which is a bit dark for me now I’m not tanned but the shade range is good.

Have you tried any Clarins foundations?
What did you think?

Glossy Box vs Boudoir Prive

GlossyBox vs Boudoir Prive

This is an over done subject I know but a decision I had to share with you, so here are my thoughts so far: help me decide!

GlossyBox October & Overall

From what I’ve seen I think this is the first month we have all got the same box, just varying nail polish shades.

Dermalogica samples & bag- very nice to have the bag and everyone loves a bit of Dermalogica. However that in itself makes me wonder why it’s in here? If Dermalogica works for you, then generally that’s what you use. I don’t think this was a very imaginative addition but absolutely outstanding products nonetheless.

Leighton Denny nail polish- I received the colour hanky panky and whilst I love the name, I hate the colour with a passion. It is hideous and although they can’t cater for personal taste- and that isn’t the point- I do repeatedly get the bargain basement feel with their colour choices of A LOT of the samples (Silver Illamasqua lipgloss, anyone...)

Stila eyeliner- for me this something I would actually buy and
probably will sooner now I've tried this. Each month glossybox do
provide something that makes the £13 worth it alone

Perfume samples- I know these tiny vials irritate many customers but I
am a fragrance fanatic so although I haven't loved any of them so far
I'm more than happy to be sent a whole boxful of perfume samples
because I just want to smell everything. I walk through john lewis at
least 3 times a week and spritz a different perfume on each arm, even
mens ones...

Overall- After 5 boxes I feel like with Glossy Box you get brands you have certainly heard of or even tried before. Usually excellent quality products though!

Predictable? Yes. Disappointing? No...

Boudoir Prive October and Overall

Studiomakeup Eye Liner pen- this is a new brand to me and a great product from what I can see so far. This is what I like about Boudoir Prive; they introduce you to lovely new brands that you couldn’t find yourself on a routine trip around Boots (like Stila)

Rose & Co lip balm and Korres body butter- Both great products which, if I wasn’t allergic to them I would be ecstatic to use but as it is I’m really happy to give them as gifts

Perfume sample- This one I actually really like, but as mentioned before I enjoy sampling all perfumes, even if I don’t like them. A good dupe for Sundance is Narcisse by Chloe though if you like it too but won’t be paying that much! !

Skin Lightening creams- I’m not sure about the general concept of these (I don’t particularly want to be whiter!) but it’s a new product for me to try nonetheless, I remember when the BB cream whispers started in the western world thinking it sounded like the strangest thing- but look at the popularity now.

Hair Oil- This sample is in really stupid packaging, it’s a solid product in a solid, thin container- duh! I will have to heat it to get the product out which is a bit thoughtless of them. This happened before with a body butter- I had to slice the bottle in half to get it out. Annoying!

Overall- After 3 Boudoir Prive boxes I feel like this delivers niche, interesting brands you wouldn't find yourself so it fulfills my personal objective of experimenting with new products, it doesn't really deliver show stopping famous brands ie full size NARS products.

So which box stays and which box goes? I'm at a total loss here, help me decide ladies!

What would you do?

Sunday Summary

This month has been consumed with only 2 things:

Moving house
Being unwell

Depressing but that's the facts.

That's l-r: some of the boxes in the new bedroom, me holding an ice pack on my face whilst my other half has collapsed with exhaustion next to me! and our hands, I suppose we're in this together!

My hospital wristbands from when I was admitted to A&E a couple of weeks ago and had stay overnight in hospital for the first time since I was 7 years old!

I am having surgery on Wednesday this week to remove two fat abscesses from my jaw and 8 teeth in the process. A beauty blogger with no teeth- hilarious. That was sarcastic but I am terrified and relieved in equal measure.

In the meantime I'm taking the opportunity to scoff as much as possible whilst I can still chew. I can't drink wine at the moment because it's not compatible with the current batch of anti-biotics I've been prescribed but this photo was from earlier in the month where I had a small window of being able to!

So October has kind of sucked to be honest, at least I'll be off work recovering for a week or so, so I'll have lots of time for blogging although there will be no FOTD'S as I will look like I've been beaten up

Hope you're all having a better one!

Idyllic FOTD & Chanel dupe

Here's a quick FOTD featuring the MAC paint pot I picked up from the Posh Paradise collection, I actually wanted nubile, the peach coloured one but it had sold out.

However when I saw Idyllic I realised it was quite a good dupe for the Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Ebloui so I went for that one

swatches far right: Chanel Ebloui top, MAC Idyllic underneath

Idyllic is a burnished burgundy, it's a little duller than the Chanel shadow as you can see in the swatches above but I won't be purchasing the Illusion d'Ombre now I have this paint pot as I do think they're similar enough in colour.

Clarins skin Illusion, benefit erase paste, MAC pearl cream colour base, MAC tea petal creme blush,

MAC idyllic paint pot, MAC midnight madness eyeshadow duo (gold & charcoal) MAC raven kohl, Diorshow mascara, liquid liner that came in Boudoir Prive box yesterday

MAC gaga2 lipstick, Barry M toffee lipgloss

Did you get anything from the October MAC collections?

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

YSL Gel Liner review

These are the most expensive gel liners I've come across recently but are they worth the price tag? I'm not really sure but here are my thoughts!

Can't fault it, they do look top notch

It's between a cream and a gel so not really comparible to fluidlines (gel) or the Bobbi Brown gel liners which are much creamier

Bronze Black is the shade I have and it is the most inappropriately named one: it is olive green! I haven't edited any of my photos so you can see the colour fairly true to life
swatches top: MAC tarnished kohl, mid: YSL bronze black, bottom: Stila mornay liner from GlossyBox

It does glide on easily as you would expect, I did not buy the accompanying brush as it was stupid money bu I did use the (brand new) tester and it was actually awkward to use, it's quite a fat brush.

Long wear

This is the downer, it certainly lasts no longer than Blacktrack. If it's humid, I've been running, crying or having a few glasses of bubbly (these were independent tests!) it barely makes it through the day

My eye started watering whilst I was trying to take these photos and you can see how it's practically off the waterline already!

I believe I had on: Clarins skin illusion foundation, Chanel in love blusher, c2000 concealer, HD brows, Stila Mornay eye liner smudged over lid, YSL liner around the rims, Diorshow mascara, MAC nymphette lipglass

I will enjoy using this as it's such a pretty colour but won't be purchasing any others in the range, especially the black one as their longevity on the eye is just not worth the price tag.

Did you pick up one of these new gel liners or were you tempted to?

Tell me about yourself tag

I was tagged by Lauren at Pixi Lili to do this Tell me about yourself award, how nice of her!

The rules
-Thank and link back to the person who awarded you
- Write 7 random things about yourself
- Spread the love to 15 other bloggers
So Thank you Lauren, and here are 7 things about me!

1. I'm in love! We've been together 18 months and live together

Some love related photos I took!
2. I have 6 siblings, the oldest after me is 22 and the youngest are
1 year old twin babies!
3. I have two tattoos, one of stars in my shoulder blade (ah the
follies of youth) and one of a rabbit
4. I'm anaphylacticly allergic to eggs and nuts. Eggs is harder to
avoid eating by a long way but nuts hive me grief with skincare and
hair products- nut oil fashion please go away!
My Morroccan cook book from Lakeland

5. Despite this I love cooking and have recently been into Moroccan
food and making many tagines. I love watching food related tv
programmes and Reading food magazines & blogs too
6. I'm a worry-wort, my boyfriend has banned me watching programmes
about hospitals and illnesses as I always start convincing myself that
I have them! Also I tend to imagine he's going to get ran over,
murdered or abducted by the mafia whenever he leaves the house.
Me and my ted, Tin Tin
 7. I like hula hooping. I learned at a festival on my 21st birthday
and have kept it up privately ever since. I can't do any tricks but I
can keep it spinning for about 15 minutes straight which is probably
only impressive to myself!
I find it quite thereputic and contrary to what you might think, the
smaller the hoop, the harder it is to do!

So those are my 7 things about me, hope you enjoyed :)
